Round Table Discussion Groups or How to Feedback your Experiences to CDISC - by Chris Decker

At the CDISC European Interchange, the E3C (European CDISC Coordinating Committee) initiated a new concept with overwhelming success.  User discussion sessions provided the CDISC community an opportunity to come together to discuss their experiences with implementing the CDISC standards, as well as provide feedback on the future direction.  These were excellent and you can read full details of their feedback here. Based on this success, this concept will also be introduced at the US Interchange in November.

CDISC knows the most vital aspects of the standards development process are the volunteers who develop the standards and the users within the industry implementing them.  At the CDISC Interchange in Baltimore, a number of round table discussions organized around specific CDISC models, will be arranged immediately after lunch on Thursday with no more than 15 people per session.  Sessions will be organized around the following models:

Structured discussion will be facilitated by CDISC subject experts and comments captured by note takers (also subject experts).  While these individuals will be responsible for moving the conversation forward, all the material will come entirely from the users. This is your opportunity to freely discuss with your colleagues in the CDISC community about how you are using the models, how they impact your ability to do your job, and how they affect the overall business process.  After the opening presentations at the Interchange, you will be able to register for these discussions by collecting a card at the registration desk.  This is on a first come, first serve basis with limited spots, and so if you want to participate please make sure you collect a card. Of course, you do need to be registered for the Interchange to take part!

There are two requirements for attending:

  1. YOU MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF USING THE STANDARDS. Please do not come if you want to LEARN about the standards.
  2. You must participate and share within the session. The sessions won’t be successful without your contributions.

In order to prepare for the session, please look at the series of questions below and discuss these questions within your company prior to the Interchange. The discussion generated within these sessions will be collated and distributed to the appropriate CDISC groups and posted on the CDISC website.  We look forward to running the sessions and hope they provide a appropriate forum for the CDISC User community to get more directly involved with CDISC.

Questions:

  • What are the adoption and implementation challenges with the model?
  • What are the greatest risks behind using the model?
  • What are the greatest benefits of using the model?
  • Are you more or less efficient since your implementation of the CDISC standards? Please elaborate.
  • What would be the most significant improvement which could be made in this area – if any?
  • What is the best direction for the model and the team to take within the next 1-4 years?
  • Where are the greatest integration issues between this model and other CDISC models?
  • What are the greatest benefits / challenges to an end2end adoption of the CDISC models into your company infrastructure?

We look forward to fruitful discussions and meeting you on Wednesday 3 November 2010!
