Beijing, China was the next stop on our Asian CDISC trip.  A lovely and delicious ‘meet and greet’ dinner, with too many dishes to count, was organized by Leo Lee of Sanofi-aventis on Thursday, 15 July, and the CDISC China Advisory Council (CCAC) had its launch meeting on 16 July.

This meeting was attended by recommended participants (thanks to the CDISC Advisory Board and NCI) to form a group that could work with the C3C (based in Shanghai) and other collaborating groups (e.g. FDA, NCI, DIA) to further the goals of CDISC within China and to determine the best means of interfacing with the State FDA (SFDA) in Beijing.   Representatives were present from FDA, NCI, DIA, Sanofi-aventis, Quintiles, Parexel, Johnson & Johnson, Image Solutions, Oracle, IBM, Absolute Co., MedXView, H&J CRO, and Real Data Medical Research.  Others from Merck, Novartis and Bayer had indicated that they wished to be included in the future, although they could not make it to this meeting.   Claire Tan of Quintiles was elected the interim Chairperson of the CCAC. One of the initial action items will be to draft a purpose statement/charter for this group.

The CCAC meeting was hosted at the Beijing office of Sanofi-aventis (see below).  Before the dinner on 15 July, Pierre-Yves Lastic, Sheila Leaman and myself had the opportunity to visit an incredible landmark in Beijing – the Forbidden City… impressive even in the rain!

Tomorrow I report from a superb Interchange in Japan, where the J3C demonstrate their wonderful organizational skills and their thorough understanding of the CDISC standards.
